HARVARD RESIDENCE

A house along the shore of Bear Hill Pond was surrounded by ornamental plants and manicured lawn. The new owners worked with G2 to repair the site, connecting the adjacent woods to the house with a robust planting of native trees, shrubs, and groundcovers. Large slabs of Goshen Stone cascade down the slopes, creating seamless paths through the new woodland. A traditional deck was re-worked with new handrails to keep views from the house to the pond unimpeded. Deck stairs gently wind past a large boulder outcrop that anchors a landing and creates easy access to lower areas of the site. Through coordination with the local Conservation Commission, careful pruning of waterside woody plants creates curated views from the house to the pond. The site character is transformed from suburban to woodland to anchor the project in the surrounding natural environment.
