WALNUT HILL SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS

Master Planning work at Walnut Hill School for the Arts calls for removal of regular vehicular traffic from the center of campus and careful siting of two new buildings on this New England Campus. One major goal was to embrace the campuses major topographic feature of a wide, sloping lawn and to invite students to traverse across it. Paths will become pedestrian only with the exception of occasional maintenance vehicles. This change will create clear, safe circulation that unites the different areas on campus that currently feel isolated. This new network of paths will accentuate the existing topography that creates compelling vistas and programming opportunities, like exterior, amphitheater performance spaces and exterior dining. There will also be new outdoor classroom and workshop spaces that make creativity and learning visible and audible to the community.
