SOMERVILLE LIBRARY, WEST BRANCH

The 1906 Carnegie Library will undergo a dramatic restoration and rehabilitation while a new pavilion is added, housing community meeting space and much-needed modern amenities., including full ADA accessibility.  The site will be transformed into active community green spaces with an entry terrace engaging the neighborhood as a public “porch”.  Spaces behind the building will be suited for everyday passive recreation while allowing for both small and large events.  The exterior space connects to the new community meeting room and together they provide a flexible and welcoming forum for a multitude of uses.
