THE ERIC CARLE MUSEUM
A Facilities Master Plan was undertaken to assess the museum as a whole and to develop a long range needs assessment in alignment with the Museums strategic plan and its constituents. As part of the planning effort, a landscape analysis was completed to understand the Museum’s unique site context, its history, topography, site circulation, as well as a visual analysis of the strong connections between inside and outside. The landscape at The Carle was carefully considered with the design of the original building. Situated on a former apple orchard, many of the original trees were saved during construction and the experience from both inside and out is one of embracing the beauty of the agricultural landscape and capturing distant views. In the Master Plan, recommendations are made to increase opportunities for outdoor programming and to improve the visitor experience in the landscape.
