THE ART COMPLEX MUSEUM

Located in Duxbury Massachusetts, the Art Complex Museum displays the personal art collection of Carl and Edith Weyerhaeuser, as well as showcases contemporary local artists. Situated on over thirteen acres of land, the museum is also home to numerous outdoor works of art, the historic Juda Alden house, and a traditional Japanese tea house. The museum holds Japanese tea ceremonies in addition to other community events including concerts, youth programming, and exhibitions of student art from nearby colleges.

G2 created a long-term masterplan that seeks to articulate a clear circulation system, define campus zones, and create space for the museum’s diverse programming needs. The plan includes a new entry plaza and entry pavilion, designed by Oudens Ello Architects, that accessibly welcomes all visitors, displays outdoor art, and serves as a hub to other parts of the site. The design team has also created a plant management plan for the museum that works to highlight its unique location in a woodland setting, creates settings for more sculpture and educational programs as well and includes the design of a memorial grove for Edith Weyerhaeuser. Phase one of the landscape plan has been implemented with the construction of a new entry plaza, the restoration of the existing woodland with extensive invasive plant removal and the creation of a new woodland path, and the expansion of the outdoor sculpture garden.
